I almost thought this was a joke. Heaven forbid should we judge candidates on the quality of their teaching and research! Sadly, (as ^ alluded to), this probably happens more than some people like to admit. People get star struck with institutions. But the idea that Christopher Newport University is spelling it out for everyone to see is just plain bizarre.

What an outrageous usurpation of the authority and prerogative of faculty. Seriously: if there's one thing faculty can reliably do, it's construct their own arbitrary, irrational rules for hiring!

Ok, Theorists, better make sure you were born into the right social class, since CNU will give those who graduated from "top" undergraduate institutions a leg up in hiring. And don't forget that the U.S. News ranking of your graduate institution matters a great deal. And if you didn't get that PBK key? Too bad for you.
