Watch The Wire. Then you will understand what it means to be Baltimore.

^ Or, if you want a show that was shot in the 90s about Bmore in the 90s, watch Homicide: Life on the Street.

almost a week has passed. still no official announcement on UBC polisci website, nor on APSA ejobs section. is this for real?
Posted 1 year ago # -
Yes, as stated above, it came through on the CPSA list serve, so it's real.

If so far you haven't heard from them via email about their interest in your file, is it safe to assume that you should look elsewhere?

Reposting from China Market Thread (it's from a while back, but it still holds):
UBC has not made invitations.
The committee is reviewing files. At UBC the committee drafts a long short list which is circulated for a while and goes to a full dept meeting at which the list is discussed and a short list is finalized. Then calls will be made.
In other words, if you're expecting to hear anything before the middle of the month, don't hold your breath. But it would be surprising if invitations were not made before the end of the month.

^^ your IP address has consistently posted misinformation about this search in recent days.
Posted 10 months ago # -
funny, since i haven't posted before AND you can't track IP addresses on here.

----Is there any truth to the above, or is it just more disinformation?
Posted 10 months ago # -
It is probably someone trying to irritate people. Or perhaps someone is anxious and hoping that people from UBC will jump in and correct the misinformation and provide an update. There was someone who seemed to be helpful about UBC before on the China Market thread a while back, so maybe somebody from UBC is monitoring PSJR.
I'd like to be wrong, but I think that it is hoping for a bit much to expect anything from the schools with Oct. 1 deadlines yet. Most faculty on search committees can't just drop all the other stuff in their lives and read 100 files over a weekend. And presumably they're at least making a pretense of actually reading the files.
Posted 10 months ago # -
Who knows? I guess we'll all find out soon enough.
Posted 10 months ago # -
the SC still poring over the files?
Posted 10 months ago # -
Guess so.
Posted 10 months ago # -
Given its more general Asian search, UBC might be looking at 200+ files. In contrast, McGill should have a much easier time. Perhaps we will soon start to see more rumors from Montreal.

Any word on the IPE job?
Posted 10 months ago # -
One would expect calls for the Asian Politics job within the next 7-10 days.
Any more specific word as to the likely timing?

^ you just answered your own question.

Mayling Birney (Princeton) is interviewing next week (source: colleague at Princeton)
Posted 10 months ago # -
Right now, Birney is soooooo regretting turning down the only job offer she's ever received (McGill). She told me she was expecting this to be her "superstar" year, but it hasn't worked out yet. Fortunately, she'll have a chance to get the UBC job.

And she told me that you're this balding white dude who is always hitting on her at conferences.

Can't believe jilted lover could be so hateful. Did the same dynamic drive the other PSJR feuds?
