Many thanks to Polisciguy and the other moderators for implementing the new registration system. In the spirit of supporting the new system and hoping that it will help spread useful information and keep out the attacks, I will kick-start things by posting the information I have heard through the grapevine:

Chicago has made an offer to Tariq Thachil.

Dartmouth has made an offer to Thachil.

Maryland is about to make (or has made) an offer to Ernesto Calvo.

Notre Dame (IR line) has made an offer to Dustin Tingley

Yale has made an offer to Thachil.

U of Ohio has made an offer to Brandon Kendhammer.

Here is hoping the new registration requirements greatly improve things on this website.

Thatchil certainly has an impressive CV. The thing that I found most interesting is that he transferred from Princeton to Cornell. Interesting choice that many on this board would consider a bit crazy. Just goes to show that if you're good, you'll do well.

This may simply mean that Thachil passed on Dartmouth's offer, so they moved to the next person on their list.

Finally you guys have finished digesting your Thanksgiving dinner and are again ready to sit down and post here. I am glad that Thachil does not study China and apparently did not apply for any Asia-related jobs this year. So why not let us start to predict where he will go?

On a related note, what could be the incentive on the part of the lower-ranked schools? After they find out what other places might also be making offers, why do they still make offers to stellar candidates, given how unlikely their offers will be accepted? The strategy seems quite risky and costly. Their second or third choices might also be going to other places. Those candidates who do eventually turn up later to fill the job might become sullen for apparently not being the most valued candidates at the department.

Just puzzled.

The first Dartmouth CP offer did not go to Thachil, but I have not heard whether or not it's been accepted.

Hmmmm, let's think about this one, Anonphd. You're a non-edu verified poster. You're disputing a rumor posted by a .edu verified person, but you are unable to actually cite any correct information.

Of course it's not impossible that one of the rumors NewEnglandProf heard was not quite right and anonphd heard something different. We'll know when we have a for sure confirmation of who got the job.

I KNOW that Tingley didn't even interview at Notre Dame.
Someone questioned the Dartmouth rumor.

Makes one wonder about the accuracy of the other snippets.

Normally it would not, there was some other stuff going on behind the scenes that made me close it. But since one rumor turned out to be true I thought it best to reopen it.

I don't know how this website works. There should be a way for the moderator to block certain IDs or even IPs so that such stupidity (as in ^) won't bother us again.

^ Not possible, PSG does not monitor IPs. We rely on an informal moderator network and free exchange of information to identify false or malicious postings. The new registration system is intended to create at least partially permanent identities so that posters can begin to establish reputations.
