Sounds like they have an Asian Studies person who may be able to teach an East Asian Politics course, but they need help covering a variety of other IR/CP classes. However, if an East Asian person blew them away, they'd hire them. So East Asian folks have a higher hurdle to clear.

You don't have to read anything into their ad. They already have Zhimin Lin who teaches on China. The theory guy from honors college just left for Rutgers. Not sure whether the theory search is for the honors program.

The Current Post-Doc (Dave Western, Brown PhD) is finishing up his two year term this year, so I don't see why this would change anything. They always have this two year post-doc (or have for a while) but they don't always fill it in theory.
