Registration no longer required (another experiment).

    During the registration period, I was able to recruit several new moderators. We now have 12 mods in all (my goal is actually 20). They are spread out across several time zones and represent a fairly good mix of different sub-fields, genders, school types, department ranks and methodological predispositions.

    I am going to lift the registration requirement and again allow anon posts. Hopefully the larger moderator pool as well as prevalence of registered users will put us on a new steady state which is better than the one were were on Pre-Thanksgiving.

    My hope is that people will still use their registered accounts for posting information they want taken seriously and will use anon status for the free flowing chatter that many seem to enjoy.

    We will see how it goes.

    Why do you keep changing your mind? I think the site has been greatly improved by requiring registration, far less of a snakepit than it was before. When something is not broke, quit fixing it. Before you had a snakepit, decided you didn't want a snakepit, and made changes to at least lessen the vitriol. Now we are going back? Doesn't make sense. Just my two cents.

    Needless to say, I hope we are not going back to what we had. I think there may be a middle path we can navigate. Of course right now due to the internal politics of BBPress, we are stuck with what we have until either I find a time to revert us back to older software or BBPress releases an upgrade that fixes anon posting.

    Go for it I am going out for drinks. It takes me a few seconds to clean it all up. So if that is the way you get your jollies on a Friday night go for it. Me?... I prefer a martini.

    god I have such a love/hate relationship with the no-registration version of the board. it's a colossal waste of time, which is why I hate it. and love it.

    You blew it, polisci guy. Things had been cleaned up and now they're back to where they were. I'm not sure why you expected anything to be different.

    The transformation of IARS makes me smile. Rocky goes from over-deferent, internet kiss-ass to yelling at polisciguy over people having fun on PSJR. It's amazing what a TT job will do for a young lad.
