To the admin/mods (and any other legitimate listeners), my two cents follow.
I've been browsing/using (and occasionally posting to) PSJR for a while now, and not only would I not mind registering (were I required, and I might do so at some point even if not), but I would almost definitely contribute more frequently if the trolls were gone. So here's an informal vote for restoring required registration.
That said, if no one ever fed the trolls, they would obviously go away. Of course, I know this post is troll food and I know they're too dumb to resist feeding. Actually, most of the time I find what the trolls say at least somewhat funny—but then I wonder what sort of person is so lonely as to troll PSJR. In fact, my guess is that there's just one troll on this entire site, he's between the ages of 19 and 22, he studied PS at his local community college before dropping out and moving back in with his parents, and he trolls about twenty forums because he has nothing else to do with his life except the Internet. And I guarantee he would respond to this post within the day, since he has nothing else to do—but, reading this, he realizes what I just said will be confirmed if he posts that quickly, so he'll wait slightly longer; say, 48 hours. But, not being a complete dolt, he realizes what I said will be confirmed if he posts within 48 hours. Etc., etc.; as soon as he posts, he's exposed. So instead he'll opt to ridicule/ostracize my approach, fake multiple posters, or act as if he didn't read this at all, trying futilely (he'll have to look that word up) to bury the self-loathing.
And that's all the troll-feeding I'll ever do, but it was fun just this once to talk to you. And I really do find you funny sometimes, in that "I remember when I was a high schooler, too" way. Okay, go ahead; I just can't wait for your sure-to-be-witty reply. I can guarantee I'll be laughing at you.
