It's classified. But here is a tip: it wasn't you.

^Please go get laid. All the snide remarks are a textbook sign of sexual frustration.

did they interview anyone?

A few months ago there were rumors that MIT was looking at several prominent people working on Africa. I don't know if any offers were extended.

why would they be hiring an africanist anyway? seems like a low priority for their department, especially since harvard is nearby and they have two.

Big endowed chair is the reason, specified to be someone working on Africa. In short a nice new position provided as a freebie for the department.

nice, thanks for the explanation

My guess is there could also be some great synergies that could come out of it with Peterson, Christia and other folks doing civil conflict. So it's a sweet deal.

So do we know who? Or who would be likely candidates? I can think of Dan Posner, maybe Cathy Boone ... who else is out there at the senior level?
Posted 5 months ago # -
Jeremy Weinstein
Posted 5 months ago # -
They were looking at Posner, Wantchekon, and one more whose name I can't remember.
Posted 5 months ago # -
Yeah, Weinstein and Humphreys might both be getting close to tenure.
Posted 5 months ago # -
Obama hired Weinstein.

Stanford gave Weinstein tenure.

Humphreys is also tenured.

I think ^^^^ was making a joke.

Boone came to my mind, but she has a two-body problem.

What about Bratton or Van de Walle? Are top places only interested in these guys who all co-author together?
Posted 5 months ago # -
Bratton was on the initial interview list, from the earlier thread.
Posted 5 months ago # -
MIT has narrowed down their list, but I am not sure they have made an actual offer.
Posted 5 months ago # -
Lieberman was mentioned too I think.
