What happened with MIT's senior African politics search? Who are they going after?

A few months ago there were rumors that MIT was looking at several prominent people working on Africa. I don't know if any offers were extended.

why would they be hiring an africanist anyway? seems like a low priority for their department, especially since harvard is nearby and they have two.

Big endowed chair is the reason, specified to be someone working on Africa. In short a nice new position provided as a freebie for the department.

My guess is there could also be some great synergies that could come out of it with Peterson, Christia and other folks doing civil conflict. So it's a sweet deal.

So do we know who? Or who would be likely candidates? I can think of Dan Posner, maybe Cathy Boone ... who else is out there at the senior level?

What about Bratton or Van de Walle? Are top places only interested in these guys who all co-author together?

MIT has narrowed down their list, but I am not sure they have made an actual offer.
