They haven't had one since Herbst left to be Provost at Miami University...(and just this month he's taken over as President at Colgate).

What do you mean not happening? She is already a senior Africanist at Princeton!

Widner is certainly a very good Africanist. But the poster above said "star". It was really too bad that Herbst went away to take a (well paying) sr admin position and took on few if any grad students at Miami. This shows, unfortunately, that Africanists don't often have the range of upward mobility as other area/sub-fields other than admin, and yet many of us "do Africa" anyway.

Also Leiberman. Who is the new Africanist that Princeton is going to get? LW or was there another offer?

    Leonard Wantchekon (NYU)

Way overrated, imho. I'd take Posner over LW (MIT did, too).

Uh not sure about that (MIT taking Posner over Wantchekon). In what sense overrated? Explain yourself Anonymous!

Wantchekon also interviewed for MIT's endowed chair.

...and that means what, precisely, in the context of MIT supposedly taking a pass on him for Posner? Is it the case that you believe that if someone doesn't end up at a place where they interviewed, then they necessarily were not offered the job?

He wasn't offered that job though.
