I still don't see why you are so stuck on the Harvard Extension MA, there are several Boston area schools that offer stand alone MA programs (BC, Brandeis, Northeastern), and while none of these are particularly strong, they are at least comparable to the Harvard Extension MA. If you're in IR, Bob Art at Brandeis would probably be one of your better options out of the schools I listed.

HES is a joke. Everyone who has ever ridden the T knows that... since they advertise there. Most of the programs are open-enrollment, classes taught by M.A. students or other clowns, so don't waste the time/money.

I beg to differ. Most of the classes are taught by Harvard faculty. I have taken classes there when I lived in Boston. You would be surprised.

Don't know if the OP is still around...

I checked this option out before going to another school for my MA...its just a money machine. Its not what you think......the IR program is administered by a History Phd.

^It just means how high quality the program is. Even the administrators have PhDs.

I have taken 2 classes at HES some years ago.

The classes were good. They are not what a Grad Student is looking for in a Masters program if your goal is to go on for a PHD. The masters is thesis based. However, you do not have a formal committee. You have an adviser, who is not even in the Harvard Government dept. They are a History Phd for some reason. They then find you someone in the real Harvard College who is willing to work with you. You go through multiple drafts until it is of a work they will sign off on. It is not the standard thesis committee we are all use to. This I feel robs the program of its true validity.

^ Its "true" validity? As opposed to the faux validity it currently has?

Come again? Where are MA theses advised by a committee, rather than a single advisor who makes you go through multiple drafts? Not at any R1 that I've been at.

But, OP, do take the advice and try to get an MA somewhere else in Boston.
