Let's try this again. Let's have a reasonable discussion about Canadian jobs this year, please!

Wow!

Here's a serious suggestion. Don't have a single Canada thread; start individual ones for jobs, etc. That might reduce the piling-on.

Here is a better suggestion: go away and get your own board.

Why - why is this an American board? That great Canadian inventor of the internet Marshall says the internet has no boundaries.

what's the link for the canadian one?

Shortlist is UofT ABD, UofT ABD, and recent UofT grad.

"That great Canadian inventor of the internet Marshall says the internet has no boundaries."
Judging from the past Canadian threads, so do the sheer immaturity and idiocy of Canadian ABDs.

OK Canadians. Buck up and register. It isn't that hard. Hopefully that will weed out the flakes who only attack schools and people and don't offer anything constructive.

Anyone know how many applications Waterloo (Theory) received?
Posted 2 years ago # -
Seeing as how the deadline isn't yet passed, it's early to say. But I would guess the final number will be close to a zillion.
Posted 2 years ago # -
The deadline was October 1.

Whoops, you're right. My bad. And sorry for both the snark and the unintended misinformation.

Does anyone know anything about these "Banting" postdoc fellowships? I just became aware of them today. Are they new?

^They're a great gig. All of the info you need should be right here: http://****.com/23dyc7b

Interesting new TT post just announced at McGill (they seem to be in real hiring mode this year) in "Politics of Development." Damn, I'm still two years out from being able to apply for great gigs like this:
The Department of Political Science and the Institute for the Study of International Development invite applications for a tenure-track joint position at the Assistant Professor level in the Politics of Development. The position is open with regard to regional specialization and specific research area. The successful candidate will have the linguistic abilities required for fieldwork. The Department seeks applicants whose research is theoretically and empirically informed, who possess strong training in qualitative and/or quantitative and/or formal methods, and who can teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels. An applicant’s record of performance must provide evidence of outstanding research potential. Candidates should have already completed the PhD or be very near completion. Applications should include curriculum vitae, graduate transcript, three letters of reference, a sample of written work and materials pertinent to teaching skills. The position start date is August 1, 2011. Review of applications will begin on January 15, 2011 and will continue until the position is filled. For more information about the Department and University, visit our web site at http://www.mcgill.ca/politicalscience/.

After last year’s inconclusive search, anyone knows if SFU are still looking for someone in PA/Canadian politics?
Posted 2 years ago # -
It wasn't inconclusive.
Posted 2 years ago # -
Sorry. I implied that a search that does not end up in a hire is inconclusive. I meant that no new faculty member joined the department. Are they still looking to (try to) replace Godbout?
Posted 2 years ago # -
We understood what you meant. The point is they did hire someone last year.
Posted 2 years ago # -
I guess I am wrong. I assumed that since there is no trace of new faculty here:
http://www.sfu.ca/politics/faculty/full_time/index.html
and here:
http://students.sfu.ca/forms/scheduleofclass.pdf
an that the department is looking for sessional for government classes in the spring session:
http://www.sfu.ca/politics/Positions.html
compounded with the fact that the name of the chosen candidate has not transpired ten months after the deadline for application, maybe the department preferred to skip their turn.
I am not trying to spread false rumors. I am merely curious.
H.E. Pennypacker, Yoyoyoyo, and others, is there a reason why the name of the chosen candidate from last year’s search is so secret, that it should not appear on a political science job rumors site?Posted 2 years ago # -
I was under the impression that they did hire but do not know who it is. Sorry!
