Any word from them? The Wiki says that they have a long short list (surely that's just a long list) and are contacting references. Would candidates necessarily know about that if it were true?

Yea, you would have heard something by now. They contacted candidates on the list to let them know they were starting to put out phone calls to references. So if you haven't heard at this point, etc. etc.

I posted originally about the long short list (b/c they emailed me quite awhile ago asking if I was still interested and asking to confirm references' contact info), but they didn't actually get around to speaking with my advisor until this past Tuesday (11/2) afternoon.
So I'd suggest that we should *not* assume that they've finalized their short list.

Sure. Agreed. But one can also likely assume that if you've not heard from them yet regarding references that you're not on their long short list, and your chances of making their short list are somewhat slim.
