If you're interested in a job there, the department is most strong for Americanists and (not surprisingly) a religion and politics focus.

^ Those are both religion and politics topics. Are there people at Calvin or other religious-affiliated schools that DON'T do only religion and politics? It reminds me of blacks who only know black studies or womyn who know only womyn's studies.

^ To do religion and politics (or anything and politics) well requires that one place ones research well within the relevant broader literatures. Corwin Smidt, to cite a Calvin example, does this exceptionally well. If you haven't noticed, religiosity is kind of important in American politics, and much of what we know as foundation knowledge and build on comes from people like Smidt. Do yourself a favor and read a book someday.

I hear their religious requirements make it hard for outsiders (especially minorities - don't see much brown skin on that faculty page) to get tenure. Perhaps that explains the turnover?

The vast majority of the religious sorting takes place at hiring, not at tenure. Tenure denial, or the threat of it, is only necessary on the rare occasions when a heathen slips through the cracks.
