Patrick is a great guy
but I must say his decision to leave DC and go to bumfukk midwest is insane
and the blog is a bit weird
anyone and their grandma now has a blog lol

^ what do you mean insane? He never liked DC, and there are tons of people (not me) who would prefer South Bend to the DC area. It's not insane at all.

Deneen's endowed chair was supposed to be for someone doing Ancients. So if they are able to fill it again next year, then I imagine they will look for someone doing that.

If you've ever lived in DC you wouldn't think it was crazy for someone who prefers small towns to want to get out. He'll probably be happier there, and that's to everyone's benefit, so good for him.

^ agreed. I lived in DC for a while before starting grad school. It's a really douchey city and I'm glad I got out.

What characteristics/features make a city "douchey"?
This seems like a category error to me.

In my opinion, DC people make DC douchey. It is the ultimate revenge of the nerd city.

^^ Remember what your student body president in high school was like? Imagine a city full of people like that.

^ So, so true.
Posted 1 year ago # -
^^Yes. And that's pretty much the only kind of person you'll run into. All wearing terrible suits and running around like their heads are on fire.

Deneen felt that traditional, conservative and Catholic political thought did not a sufficiently central role at Georgetown. Actually they might even find a political theorist as part of the search to fill the open positions (they may be interviewing at least one). The endowed chair held by Deneen has to have something with Greece, not necessarily ancient, and not necessarily in political theory. If G'town does not find a suitable theorist this year they probably will look for a TT person next year. Political theory will continue to play an important at GU as all SFS students and all Government majors are required to take a course in political theory. However that sub-field cannot dominate everyone else.

^^I think that subfield should dominate everyone else.

Why isn't RPG over at Notre Dame with Deneen? They could hire a certain person from Oxford on full-time and create a natural law mecca.

They will hire an empiricist. A theorist for a theorist is way too 1950s.

I heard they will be hiring Melissa schwartzkoff from Columbia and are interviewing two people one with focus in ancient Greek political philosophy. One with a more continental philosophy bent. Gerald Mara and schall are also retiring!

^I meant Melissa Schwartzberg!
Posted 1 year ago # -
Mara doesn't seem that old. Schall's really been there a long time.
Posted 1 year ago # -
Where did u hear that about Schwartzberg?
I doubt it.
shes happy at Columbia.
her work is insignificant, so I dont see why GU would be eager to get her.
Juries as the most important part of democracy? please.
it's amazing how our field rewards mediocrity as long as it is couched in familiar language.Posted 1 year ago # -
Schartzberg for Deneen? If so, this is a coup for Georgetown. That's a huge, huge upgrade.

Simmel/Onan (^^): You've been warned many times to stay away from this site. You are incapable of disguising your identity, so posting as anon doesn't work. There's hardly any point in outing you at this point, but if continue attacking actual scholars, I will.
