I can say for certain that several dozen universities will be hiring in theory. They will range in quality from Ivy League universities to small, liberal arts colleges. The teaching loads will also vary. I predict with near certainty that each job will have a very large number of applicants. I also predict that for any single job, a fair amount of random chance will be involved regarding who gets asked for interviews. I foresee that in some cases they will interview people with extensive publishing records already, or perhaps they will have a preference for current Assistant Profs with a track record; in other cases they will decide to hire unpublished but promising people, or perhaps the lesser-known schools will take someone with a lesser record on the assumption that they are actually serious about the job. My crystal ball tells me that some of the jobs will be pulled before there is anyone hired. Finally, my powers of foresight suggest that the only way that any individual person can know with certainty whether they will get any particular job, is to apply to that job and see what happens.
Of course, all the above is mere speculation.

"hire unpublished but promising people" Has this ever happened? A TT job without any publications?
