If you go to an Economics dept you will immediately notice that political science is looked down. Go to a political science department and sociologists are looked down. Go to a dpt of psychology and Economics is looked down. Demographers think economists are measuring imaginary concepts, something economists think about psychologists..... so apparently there is a ranking in the social sciences about which everyone knows about but nobody likes to talk about. The funny thing is that even within political science, your "reputation" depends on your cross-disciplinary approach. So some specialize in political economy, or political demography, political geography, political psychology.....you name it! Discuss.

I think your first year in your grad program went well enough and you should take a hiatus from the books for the summer. Try to get your head right for fall.

There is only one social science. The things that differentiate the various disciplines are non-scientific.

So from your post:
econ > political science
political science > sociology
economics > psychologists
demography > economicsAll I get from that is that demography rules supreme and sociology is probably at the bottom. I imagine if you expressed it as a set of preferences from each discipline you'd get some cycling.

As for the average quality of work, I'd say:
econ > demography > poli = soci > psych > "studies"
