Im am happy he was convicted...but, was there any real hard evidence of what he did or was he convicted on a he said/he said basis? ie mere accusations

any hard evidence? you should read the grand jury indictment and then there's the whole matter of eyewitness testimony on the part of ten boys, and many more (a second line) of accusers that just came forward, including his adoptive son who won't have anything to do with him. then you've got mcqueary, who testified to catching him in the shower with a boy, and having heard "skin on skin slapping" before walking in. I don't know how much more you would want. this is one of the most open and shut cases since blago.

how many Rogers Smiths do we have in political science? the most prominent one seems to be at UPenn, a vastly more prestigious school.

The context of this story, understandably overshadowed by Sandusky's awful crimes, is how horrible Penn State University has been managed by look-the-other-way administrators who lack any kind of basic decency or accountability. They fired a few, but the rest remain in place running things the same as always. A town and a university devoted to covering up the truth. What a terrible place.

^ so realistically does this hurt the political science dept at Penn State's reputation. I know there's no direct relationship with the case, but will people lump it in with a general culture of corruption, dishonest, and criminality that has pervaded the institution in terms of covering up crimes against children? Interesting discussion, I think, if people want to weigh in on whether any of this influences their perceptions of the program's viability going into the future.

I hate the guy as much as the next guy, but there is no evidence of wrongdoing.
Evidence would be semen in anus, oral feces, videotape, et al.
10 or 20 or 30 people who acccuse 1 person of wrongdoing aint no evidence, especially when the horseplay took place 10 or 20 yrs ago.
I am appalled by the miscarriage of justice even though I despise this pedophile. I dont see how accusations can amount to 'evidence' or even 'witness' testimony.

^ you could keep good company with the lone juror on the first blago trial who voted to let him off on all charges. mountains of evidence but you couldn't vote to convict unless the feds had on video tape the money exchanging hands as blago said to those attempting to buy the votes "I agree to do X Y and Z for the money you are now giving me." thank god most people aren't this ridiculous, lest we want child rapers running free. I'd like to hear you make this argument if it was your kid.

^not for me to decide, or you. that's why we have juries who pour over evidence presented exhaustively by prosecutors and defense. they come to a decision based on a far more extensive analysis of evidence than anything we have time to go through. that's why we defer, short of some sort of overwhelming evidence of corruption of a jury, in which case that's why they have mistrials.

In the short term, all this upheaval will make it harder for PSU to attract senior faculty. No guarantee that the administrator who signs off on promises to get Dr. Moosehead will still be there when it comes time to make a real offer.
