Just go to IQMR at Syracuse. You'll "learn" all about qual methods from the best scholars in the flabby, boring circle-jerk that is qual methods (the teaching part, not the using part).

Brandeis is also majorly qual with a good placement record. Small program.

Almost all IR folks at Northwestern do qualitative work, although they're not as productive as they should be.

Depending on what subfield you're interested in, Virginia could be a good option outside the top 20.

No top-10 school has good qualitative training. Too much econ envy (and failed econ profs).

I thought we had physics envy. Can someone tell me once and for all who we're envious of?

qualitative training + outside top 10 (or top 15)= unemployment benefitsPosted 10 months ago # -
Or nice job at a low-pressure LAC in pleasant town where you don't have to spend your whole career kissing up to your elders.

^ Could you please describe "kissing up" in exhaustive detail?

qualitative training + outside top 10 (or top 15)= unemployment benefitsWith all seriousness, it's possible to get both qualitative and quantitative training. But yes, qually training only at a bad program is a good way to **** yourself.

phd outside the top 60, tenured inside the top 30. deal with it folks. you don't need advanced stats training to do good work.
