You will not find any reliable data. Getting accurate and comprehensive information out of departments in private universities is not possible.

In Soviet Russia, salaries have you.
I thought I'd add something fresh to this very fresh topic.

You asked about the best salaries. I can tell you one of the worst salaries: Florida State College in Jacksonville, Florida had a position paying $47,000 with a Ph.D. (and $42,000 for a MA) - teaching 5 courses a semester - total of 10 courses a year.

so what are the top, say, 10 best poli sci depts in terms of salaries?
Posted 10 months ago # -
Best salaries in terms of nominal dollars or purchasing power?
I bet USC and Stanford are near the top in nominal dollars. But good luck buying a decent house in a nice neighborhood in LA or Palo Alto, even with those top salaries. The best pay adjusted for cost of living is likely to come from a rich private school in a relatively inexpensive place to live (in other words, the South). Duke, Emory, Rice, and SMU all seem like they would fit the bill, but that is merely a guess.

isnt that the goodammmed BOTTOM LINE????
Posted 10 months ago # -
I have heard that USC does not pay as well as you would expect given the L.A. cost of living.

The University of California posts their salaries online, so you can search some of the well-known professors in the UC system and see the range for a public university system.
A few examples (FY 2010):
1. $289,733 Timothy Groseclose
2. $237,362 T.J. Pempel
3. $224,308 Joel D. Aberbach
4. $221,162 Rodger Huckfeldt
5. $220,004 Zeev Maoz
6. $210,558 James Fowler
7. $196,996 Eric Schickler
8. $190,501 Samuel Popkin
9. $182,845 John Zaller
10. $173,448 Jacob Citrin
9. $170,937 Walter StonePosted 10 months ago # -
Happy to see Groseclose making more than others. He deserves more.
Posted 10 months ago # -
Groseclose is a stupid Chink apologist, and I don't think he deserves a single penny from what is an otherwise solid UCLA department.
