He's not asian?

I think what ^^^ meant is that Groseclose is an apologist for Chinks, which I suppose he is. I'm not sure why he chose to be that way. His work on Congress used to be good on its own merit, but he decided to insert himself into the affirmative action debate for some unknown reason, and the excuses he makes for Asian students discredits his work in my opinion.

^link? wtf??? I have no recollection of him making any comments on Asian students ever.
but even if he did (I am shocked not many Asian students in that grad program)why would it matter??Posted 10 months ago # -
UCLA does have a serious asian problem, so I don't think that speaking out about it in the way he did was a good idea.
Posted 10 months ago # -
wtf is an Asian problem? You still do not make ANY sense. If you are an econ troll, the grad program does not have many Asians anyway, so chill.

^ You're being trolled by fake anti-asian racism. Please try to be less gullible in the future, thanx

Sawyer blows all those jokers away
Posted 10 months ago # -
yea but he earned all of it fair and square
Posted 10 months ago # -
so what are top depts in terms of salaries?
Posted 10 months ago # -
The one with the higher salaries I think.
Posted 10 months ago # -
^That's relative. There are top public universities with very bad salaries compared to other not-so-well ranked public. Top publics go between 70K and 100K while privates go between 80K and 120K. But do not let these numbers convince you because reality shows that it is VERY difficult to get a job at a top university. 95% of graduates get salaries between 55K and 80K.

Groseclose played multiple senior offers off of each other for maximum benefit in 06/07, same as Ting. And it appears to have worked out great for him.
Posted 10 months ago # -
That Sawyer makes the kind of money he makes... I'll never understand. Good for him of course. I just find it utterly puzzling.
Posted 10 months ago # -
^^^ who are you responding to? The poster who said that depts that pay better are tops in terms of salaries?
Posted 10 months ago # -
ok but what are the top 10 depts in terms of salaries?
Posted 10 months ago # -
lol
poli sci people have no clue
they have no idea what the top 10 depts in salaries are
im not other fields/industries, thats the first thing people find outPosted 10 months ago # -
Sawyer played UCLA/HU against each other to magnificent effect...superb
Posted 10 months ago # -
Of course we know who pays better. You think Harvard pays the same as Kentucky? Lol, theorist
Posted 10 months ago # -
Also, methodologists make more than theorists, OP. You should know that.
Posted 10 months ago # -
yea but what are the rankings of the top 10?
Posted 10 months ago # -
Who are the most grossly underpaid people in the field. Besides me, of course.
Posted 10 months ago # -
yeah but what are the top depts salary-wise?
Posted 10 months ago # -
Beating a dead horse here, but 95% of variance in starting salary is explained by cost of living differences.
Posted 10 months ago # -
Hmmm I think there's way more "unexplained" variance even if you include a bunch of variables including cost of living.
Top is my department. I saw the data.
Posted 10 months ago # -
It also assumes cost of living calculations that are used on a national basis have anything to do with regional variations. In my state, cheap land and labor abound, but gas, food, and health care costs are slightly higher than the national median. Yet we are always listed as one of the cheapest places to live in the US. But the difference in lower housing costs is more than made up for by the deflated salaries and not-so-cheap commodities prices.

In comparison with UC salaries listed above, top privates pay considerably more for comparable people
Posted 10 months ago # -
Mean salary is irrelevant. The standard deviation is too high. For instance, I personally knew two APs that started in the same dept and year, and one started at nearly double the other's salary. It all comes down to your bargaining power/willingness to negotiate hard, how much they want you, and how much budget flexibility they have. These kinds of budget decisions at dean/provost level also explain the seemingly unmerited salaries of some senior people mentioned on this thread. If the school really wants you and you have another offer, that's when the real money comes on the table.

"lol

Anyway so tell us smartypants what are the top salaries (top 10) in your field or industry???
