Ive been pretty succssful at getting the dean to fund a larger number of admits in my dept. My #1 argument has been our very good placement record. Im outside the top 50.

^ How can we get more departments to follow your example? We need expansion. Too many undergraduates can't get into grad school with the limited number of slots. Time to break the monopoly

You facetious kids are so cute, but that's not going to help you get a job.

^^^ I have been hearing a lot more ads for Capella University. Nice job!

^ this makes no sense. Look, I don't know the record of your school. All I'm saying is that our record at our non top-50 dept is good enough to convince the dean to fund more students. I'm proud of our students and their achievements, and as long as we can keep placing them in good jobs (TT, GOVT, etc.) I will advocate to increase the resources of our grad program as well as the number of funded offers.

Ignore the critics. Keep doing what you are doing. This is a market and you have a product people want to buy. Bravo!

^Yes, I have found that CHYMPS degrees don't mean s.h.i.t.

Those degrees might mean something, but no guarantee of employment in this crowded market.

There is a comparable debate going on in the medical profession about whether med schools in the Caribbean are "just as good" as the top medical schools in the U.S. The Caribbean medical schools seem to be thriving, as are political science grad programs below the "top 50". To each their own.

this makes no sense
--It makes sense to unemployed CHYMPS students whom they have to compete against. Bravo for making these little turds' lives more difficult and keep up the good work. "Keep entitled CHYMPSERS unemployed in 2013!"

I don't know whether our program is any better/worse than those caribbean med schools. I do know, however, that there is a demand for our students, since our placement record is very good. Ultimately that's what I care about, seeing our students graduate and get jobs that they find fulfilling, in which they contribute via their research and teaching.

Cincinnati appears to have shut down a PhD program. I can't recall any others.
