What's up with the Cornell theory job? Did somebody leave? Are they looking for something specific? Can somebody post the job ad here? Thanks, one and all.

They want someone doing continental thought. I don't think anyone left, but it's hard to see how they'd need more help in that area.

Posted 9 months ago # -
It's Cornel West's.

Susan Buck-Morss left (went to CUNY?).

^ Whoa, just heard of this.
Major, major, loss for Cornell (Theory).
Posted 9 months ago # -
^ oxymoron
Posted 9 months ago # -
^ Huh? She is most definitely a major loss.
Posted 9 months ago # -
eh, not really. She's pretty much done. This a retirement job, essentially

so, question #1 answered. Sorta. but what about #2 -- can someone post the ad?

Ad is vague.

I predict there will be loads of unemployed or under-empoloyed theorists fighting for this job.
Posted 9 months ago # -
^And I predict the earth is round...any other blatantly obvious waste of comments, genius?
Posted 9 months ago # -
dont waste your time if you are ABD or assistant prof....Cornell is looking for Buck-Morss replacement, ie someone Associate at least.
Posted 9 months ago # -
^ one word: aaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
Most pathetic attempt ever to narrow the pool.
Posted 9 months ago # -
^^that is actually a bad prediction.
As poster above said, this is not for 'unemployed' or 'underemployed' Theorists, it is a replacement for their Senior Theorist who left to CUNY.
They are not going to look for an ABD or VAP or lecturer to replace Buck-Morss.
They are looking for Associates, ie just tenured or even advanced Associate, to fill the shoes of Buck Morss.
Cornell has an offer out to a senior person at Wellesley. That is why they are open to hiring a younger person and not necessarily a full professor to replace Buck Morss.
So it is a job for people who are rising stars and now at the associate level.Posted 9 months ago # -
^^really?
whats the logic of trying to replace a Senior Theorist with a new ABD? that is absurd.
Right now there are only 2 associates at Cornell, Frank and Smith. They are not looking for ABD.Posted 9 months ago # -
^^^ but didnt mean to burst your bubble, sweet lil innocent ABD :)
Posted 9 months ago # -
its a Buck-Morss replacement (modern/contemp European PT)
so unlikely that they would hire someone just out of a PhD program. Most probably an Associate or a star-assistant profPosted 9 months ago # -
Yes Buck-Morss was slowly spending more time at CUNY in NYC. So she finally left now from Cornell.
Posted 9 months ago # -
Are they looking to hire at the untenured associate level? The language of the ad suggests that.
Posted 9 months ago # -
yeah
either tenured or untenured associate
based on inside infoPosted 9 months ago # -
^ Why? She's a lovely person and the best theorist Cornell has ever had.
Posted 9 months ago # -
precisely
i wanna do her
so gorgeousPosted 9 months ago # -
Why would they replace a full professor with an associate?
Posted 9 months ago # -
to hire a a rising star who will make full in 3-4 yrs
Posted 9 months ago # -
i love the phrases like "rising star" .. and "continental theory" or "associate professor at Cornell" are used in the same sentence.. we are seriously fudged as a discipline
