University of Washington (American) - Suspended/Hiring Freeze
University of Virginia (American) - Suspended/Hiring Freeze
Arizona State is on a de facto freeze (both American and IR/CP positions). There's word that freeze might be lifted sometime after Thanksgiving, but so far, no announcement.
Was U of W CP/IR also suspended?
University of Missouri (American) - suspended after interviews conducted
U of Illinois-Chicago - American search suspended
Was Georgia state (American) suspended?
Georgia State just posted a lecturer in American, and a TT-job in IR/Comparative on APSA.
I heard Georgia State was trying to get its searches wrapped up before the legislature came back in session and cut budgets.
Missouri is continuing to interview, hoping for a thaw in the hiring freeze.
Kentucky has not been shut down - at least not yet.
So has the Kentucky offer been accepted?

Not sure about GA, but I think many departments are worried about what will happen if they dont' get somebody before the new year. State budgets are really bleak
Ok, I get the "temporary" hiring freeze, but what is the difference between a permanent freeze and simply canceling the search? Are there still searches under a permanent freeze? When the freeze "thaws" (maybe a few months or years down the line), will those particular hires be re-advertised, or are they all just gone for good?

If a department was authorized to conduct 2+ searches back in August, the dean may tell them now that they only get 1 hire due to budgetary restrictions, so choose which hire you want to make. That's not a hiring freeze, but it is a canceled search.
This is really a bad year for 4th year+ grad students. Very few jobs available in most disciplines, little money for dissertation fellowships, cutbacks in stipends, and it's tough to get additional loans.
Got an email from Valparaiso saying IR/Comp position had been frozen until further notice
USCGA American/Policy canceled

Here at Stanford we are hiring like crazy! We need people, send in you cv, with the housing crash all our Faculty are getting out. They lost everything!

But beware: We treat our interviewees very rudely and unprofessionally at Stanford.
Princeton recently announced some measures related to the slowing economy. There's no hiring freeze per se, but it sounds like the university intends to tighten up on hiring quite a bit next year. The details can be found at http://****.com/7xra4x . Most relevant quotes:
--"Searches for new faculty already authorized may continue, but any new requests to initiate or reopen searches will be reviewed by Dean of the Faculty David Dobkin."
--"Dobkin will work with academic units to minimize the number of visiting faculty and fellows who come to campus next year."
