This 120-page tome is sure to be regarded as a classic for generations (of humans and non-humans) to come.

Apparently my dog likes JPG's book a lot.

Watch the Nature channel. Pretty sure they roll more with authoritarianism backed by violence

You guys are funny. He may be a fraud, but you should at least recognize that he's achieved way more in a short period of time than what most of you losers will in your lifetime.
And most of you would love to have a book with Palgrave.

^ Re Palgrave: not yet, but when they start getting listed on the "deadwood assistant" thread (or more likely, don't even make it that far), they'll be changing how they view things.

Thank god for the motherf***ing dreamers.

Of course. A CLASSIC is not something that we can produce easily. JPG is going to be the J.S. Mill of our time.

Australian political scientists are as dumb as a lobotomized bunny.

Seriously, leave the guy alone. I see that people are making jokes, but honestly, what if his work is even half-way decent? I have never read it, and it is not in my field, but are people going after him because they may think he brags or because his work is very bad? I don't know if this guy will be Mill or Rousseau (come on), but if he's producing something (a Palgrave book is not insignificant), more power to him.

And let's face it, he's not more obnoxious than the average Stanford student...

Palgrave occasionally puts out something good, but they also publish loads of barely edited dissertations and edited volumes that shouldn't have been put online, much less printed.

^^^ His work is nonsense and the inflated sense of self-importance makes him fun to ridicule.
Yes, we all probably have an inflated sense of our own self-importance--'cept we don't go around aggressively seeking attention on the internets, starting our own journals, giving unofficial "Ted" talks, and unilaterally engaging China on the Tibet question, like JPG.

But you wish you had that kind of international pull.

This just reaffirms my belief that the people who do well in polisci are the loud bull$hitters, not the serious scholars.

lol u think JPG is ''doing well''? he is a joke. literally.

POint taken.

Canadians are hopelessly insecure and JPG's gambit freaks them out because a) they don't have the balls to do it, and b) fear of guilt by association.
Anyone else writing about Idle No More? Did Theresa Spence shrink in the process? Are 10 toonie bills really made out of plastic? Call me maybe?

He is not failing. He has a job. That is better than 95% of the future burger flippers on this site.
Having said that, the pose is painful.
Posted 2 months ago # -
^ Does he actually have a job? We know he is an "Honorary Research Fellow" at some redneck Australian directional. It might pay the bills for a year or so, but it isn't a T&T
Posted 2 months ago # -
If it's an "honorary" position, it's probably not even salaried.

It did also occur to me that many canonical figures were dismissed as loons when they wrote, and so perhaps we should be so quick to judge him. On the other hand, the bits of writing I have seen by him are ridiculously bad.
Posted 2 months ago # -
^^^ Have you seen the ratio of phds to TTers? Like I said, "95% of the future burger flippers on this site." Place is full of snowflakes who think they're going to swan into a job.
Posted 2 months ago # -
^ Note that JPG is NOT getting a job in the US. This is important because Asia and Australia are places for losers and dumbasses.
Posted 2 months ago # -
^this is correct
